Clean Sweep 2014 Sunday, June 810:00 AM to 1:00 PMCal Anderson Shelter HouseRegistration Starts at 9:30AM
This year’s Clean Sweep will take place on Sunday, June 8th, beginning at 10 AM at the Cal Anderson Shelter House. Registration starts at 9:30 AM.  Breakfast and coffee will be served to volunteers from Supporting Sponsor Starbucks and lunch will be provided by Pagliacci Pizza and Other Coast Cafe.  Entertainment will be provided and every volunteer will receive a t-shirt to commemorate the event.  All cleaning supplies are provided. You just need to show up!

We’re partnering with Seattle Pridefest for their Gay Day of Service to kick off Pride month and spruce up Capitol Hill!

New this year, we have added a recycling element to Clean Sweep.  Supporting Sponsor First Security Bank is encouraging the community to help reduce identity theft crimes by recycling sensitive documents and/or electronic items no longer in use with their Shred-it! and eWaste recycling event.  Look for them from 12:00 to 2:00 PM in the Hugo House parking lot (1634 11th Ave.)

Up to 10 boxes or bags of paper for shredding and up to 10 of the following electronic items (per person) may be brought to be recycled free or for a small fee:

  • TVs
  • CPUs
  • computer monitors
  • laptops
  • cell phones

A list of acceptable items is available on the bank’s website, www.fsbwa.com.

Early arrival is recommended as shredding is on a first come, first served basis until the truck is full.  Documents will be shredded on site while you watch.  Cardboard boxes and/or bags will be returned to you.  There are items that can or cannot be put into the receptacles with the paper.  That list is also available on the bank’s website.

We are thrilled to be joined by so many wonderful friends and sponsors for this year’s event, including Sound Transit, Seattle Pridefest, Starbucks, First Security Bank, Home Street Bank, Other Coast Café, Amazon.

There will be a food drive for the Jewish Family Services food bank.  Bring a food donation to the Clean Sweep and receive a raffle ticket for prizes to local Capitol Hill businesses.  Help us feed the hungry in Capitol Hill.

History:
Clean Sweep is a Capitol Hill tradition.  For the past decade the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce has gathered neighborhood residents, business owners and their friends to do some Spring cleaning on the commercial streets of our neighborhood.  What started as a modest effort with a handful of stalwart volunteers cleaning up Broadway has grown to a volunteer crowd of over 400, with over 23 blocks of the neighborhood covered.

Clean Sweep is a community, family friendly event that aims to not only clean up our neighborhood but to build connections between neighbors, provide volunteer opportunities for our members and create a sense of ownership for all of us in the Capitol Hill neighborhood.  A well-loved neighborhood is well taken care of by the people who live, work and play there.  And we all love Capitol Hill!
