Community Lunch Update

Save the Date!  This fall Community Lunch kicks off its 30th anniversary celebration with our annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner Sunday, October 26th.  We could use some help planning it.  If you would like to volunteer, email  I hope to see you on October 26th as we begin the celebration of 30 years of hot meals on Capitol Hill.

On August 10th, Community Lunch threw a Bluegrass party to help The Shed Boys celebrate the release of their new CD, “Rider.”  Adam Rauch, Verlon Brown and friends played for almost four hours while over 200 guests enjoyed brats, beer, soft drinks, salads, and desserts.  It was a great time for all, and it raised nearly $5,000 for Community Lunch.  Thank you, Shed Boys!

Community Lunch organized a drug impact seminar for August so those on the front lines of providing services to the homeless community could learn about issues, behaviors, and impacts of drugs and alcohol among those we serve.  Presenters were Ron Jackson of Evergreen Treatment Center and Kelly Craig from REACH.  We invited both meal programs and food banks from throughout the region and it was very successful, with more than 60 people attending.

A BIG Thank-You to APCC Volunteers who have jumped in to help prepare and serve lunches on Tuesdays and Fridays during August and September in addition to the Thursday suppers.   With the end of summer and the beginning of school, our volunteers and students have dwindled.  The tireless support from the Supper volunteers has made a huge difference to those hungry individuals in our community.

With Warm Regards,

Don Jensen, Director
