Community Lunch is this year’s winner of the Mayor’s End Hunger Award for outstanding organization! Mayor Ed Murray presented the award during a luncheon at Saint Mark’s Cathedral, and we are honored to be recognized among Seattle’s many meal programs as an organization taking innovative approaches to end hunger.
Mark your calendar! October 25th is the annual Community Lunch Appreciation Dinner at All Pilgrims, a free event to honor our volunteers, donors, and this year to recognize the 5th year anniversary of the Thursday supper!
You may have noticed our new van parked outside the church Wednesday and Thursday evenings. With a major grant from the Boeing Employees Community Fund and additional funding from the Tulalip Tribe, Community Lunch has purchased a new cargo van. The majority of our food supplies are donated, and reliable transportation is essential to our program’s success. The new van replaces a 1995 van that served us well for many years. The old van carried more than half a million pounds of food from Food Lifeline alone during its years working for Community Lunch.
As you know, in January we began providing a new Wednesday night supper at All Pilgrims. The meal has grown rapidly – with over 3,000 meals served since January. We are able to sustain this new meal in large thanks to the generous weekly donations of sandwiches, wraps, and salads from Molly’s Salads. (Did you know we served just 9 guests at our first meal in 1985? Thirty years later, we see upwards of 300 guests at a meal!) In addition to Molly’s Salads, we have received a bounty of support from local businesses. The new Starbucks Roastery on Pike St. now donates over 100lbs of coffee beans each week, in addition to their donation of an industrial grinder (now located in the All Pilgrim’s kitchen!). We act as the community distributor for the Roastery, supplying the donated coffee to other nonprofits in the area. In March, Mud Bay pet store held a fundraiser for Community Lunch, raising over $500 for flea medication and other essential pet supplies for our guests.
And, a BIG thank you to our All Pilgrim’s volunteers who help us with our meals every week. Thank you for the dedicated community of volunteers you have created!

We always need volunteers! As the summer months approach, consider spending a few hours helping prep and serve great food at our Wednesday evening supper, 3 – 6:30 PM. All ages, all abilities, all are welcome!
