Illumni Men’s Chorale is back, with our 2012 American-themed holiday concerts! We’ll start the program with a set of two Hanukkah pieces scored by American composers, then move through the landscape that is American Christmas and holiday music.
The program includes favorites by local composers Kendall Briggs and Eric Lane Barnes. Abbie Betinis carries on her family’s nearly 90-year tradition of writing Christmas carols with her interpretation of Gustav Holst’s “In the Bleak Midwinter,” and Jackson Berkey of Mannheim Steamroller has given us the special privilege of offering the West Coast premiere of his newly released “Angels We Have Heard on High.” This will be only the second time this piece has ever been performed!
Other highlights include:
Mark Riese’s rousing arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” a true piano tour de force, featuring the talented hands of Illumni’s new accompanist, Micah Bisson.
A setting of “Oh, Holy Night!” by early American composer Dudley Buck, featuring several soloists.
A visit by Santa (!), and an audience sing-a-long of holiday favorites!
A performance of our special guests, the Jet Cities Chorus.
And . . .
The world premiere of Edwin Wendler’s new carol, “While Shepherds Watched,” as performed by you, the audience!
As always, these concerts are free. To reserve tickets or make a donation to sponsor the concerts, visit www.christmasshouldbefree.org.
